Thanks to a post by Johnny Lee I just discovered a couple of videos by Vicente Sahuc. I have not found much information about him on the internet and his website is rather empty and out-of-date. And that is a pity because I like quite a lot this photographer's work, specially the two videos that he has uploaded.
Both play with desaturation, time wrapping, heavily cinematographic angles and a powerful soundtrack. And the best, it all fits perfectly and the pacing of the images flows quite nicely.

Algunos hombres buenos

Son, we live in a world that has walls and those walls need to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago and curse the Marines; you have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives and that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use then as the backbone of a life trying to defend something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you," and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest that you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.
This is right at the end of the movie. The cast is pretty good and the tension is well managed along the movie, but you just can't stop feeling this is "one of those" American army films with the flag fading in and some moving speeches about justice, honour, the marines. A bit of a cliché I guess. And, funny enough, it is all about a trial for a murder in the Guantanamo base, a place that is not particularly well-known because of its sense of justice..
A bit long, but worth watching. Good for a Sunday afternoon on the sofa and low lights.

Godzilla
En respuesta a un email que mandé hace ya algún tiempo a mis amigos, Sergio Ruiz, un buen colega de la carrera de Cádiz me hizo un pequeño regalo que me alegró el día y que ahora me gustaría compartir. Una imagen que rescató de no sé donde pero que me trajo muchos recuerdos.
Resulta que al profesor de la asignatura de Traductores de aquel entonces (Jose Antonio) le daba por contar chistes o poner diapositivas un poco extrañas en los descansos de clase. No es el único profesor que conozco que haga eso, pero sin duda han sido suyos los descansos didácticos que recuerdo con más cariño. Se quedarán siempre conmigo esos chistes sobre analizadores sintácticos, los cuadros de Van Gogh imitando letras chinas... uno se puede imaginar la cara de los alumnos los incontables comentarios en el momento y las recurrencias futuras a la anecdota.

Bueno, surfeando he terminado encontrando un par de herramientas curiosotas para los amantes de la música y aunque no soy de los de escribir emails masivos ni newsletters, pensaba que igual a un par de mis contactos musicaletes les gustaba.
Primero lo primero: si usas firefox (y deberías) es obligatorio haber probado al menos una vez foxytunes. En principio es un plugin que te permite controlar tu reproductor habitual (itunes, winamp, win media, etc.) desde el mismo explorador en una barrita de herramientas.
Y digo en principio porque ahora es mucho más: además de mantenerte historiales, bajarte las carátulas o automatizar búsquedas "comunes" como las letras, la biografía del autor y demás en webs populares tipo amazon o google, ahora dispone de una cosita que se llama foxy tunes planet. Se trata de una especie de base de datos / buscador que, a partir de una canción, género o autor te incrusta en una sola página videos buscados en youtube, letras, imágenes de flickr, etc.
Tengo doce millones de canciones distintas y con cada álbum nuevo o piezas sueltas es una lata organizar.
Para ese caso yo uso MediaMonkey (creo que winamp tiene plugins similares pero no lo he probado). Es un reproductor pero como tal no me gusta mucho. Lo mejor que tiene es que puede reordenar los ficheros siguiendo patrones extraídos de los tags de los mp3, por ejemplo, puedes pedirle que te ordene toda tu música como
